You're the One

We just celebrated love! It has many forms; personal, familial, societal, and the ultimate compassion for all. Lately I’ve been musing on romance. We can feel appreciation, responsibility, lust, empathy, and sweetness in love. Occasionally we feel the depth of love. Romance is extravagant, delicious, inspired, exhilarating. Romance doesn’t mess around, it’s all in. It’s sexy but ultimately it’s not about sex. It’s passion, which is energy!

What if your greatest romance was with your own life?

Do you have a burning desire to live more fully? Did you lose it somewhere along the way? The “omnipotentiality of youth” is intoxicating, but beyond that we can always choose to navigate our lives toward the new. To be curious. To grow, evolve, and be in love with the very fact that we exist. Appreciating the potential inherent in the next moment.

The lack of self-love is much discussed, but in terms of ego and action. Nervous systems are hard-wired and alert for danger in the environment. It’s why we tend to focus on what needs attention and fixing. When we turn that around and apply it to ourselves it’s deadening. We feel insufficient; we contract.

The philosopher Wittgenstien had a “good enough” theory. Doesn't that sound liberating? You do your best, and it’s - good enough. If to err is human, and to forgive is divine - why not forgive ourselves for not being perfect? Recognizing all we are, have done and been through. We’re still here, and every day is a new day!

Where is the silliness, the over-the-top gestures, the vulnerability to look like a fool? Greeting our life with an attitude of not knowing - because in truth, anything is possible in any moment. Nothing escapes the gravity of attention that is romance. There are practices to reorient and de-escalate troubled feelings; it involves engaging all the senses. It makes you feel more alive, just like romance.

Romance feels risky; you’re putting it all out there. It’s the gamble of giving it your all. Hopes and dreams are on the line. Letting the chips fall… and then picking up the pieces for the next experiment.

I’m as guilty as the next person of liking the comfort of routine, but wanting encounters with the mystery. Fortunately, my work as a healer does just that.

When I drop into Being and direct my focus, anything can come up. I wait for clarity about what to do. After I take action, I step back into Being to assess the next best move. I’m so often surprised by the new or unexpected! Being and Doing, engaging all my senses (including the 6th!) I feel fully alive.

It's always easy to see what's wrong in our lives and the world. Put your attention on the amazing fact of your existence, and bring your senses online. The world once again becomes delicious, juicy, messy - free from restriction, and judgment. You are a miracle! Fall in love with your life, again and again…
